We all want the most from life for ourselves and for our family members.

Psychotherapy can help you or your child when provided by an experienced therapist.

Psychologist

Deborah Van Aken

Welcome to my website, and a little bit about me. I am a licensed psychologist in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and have maintained a clinical private practice for over 30 years. I provide psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults and very much enjoy working with that array of age groups.  Sessions are scheduled in my private office space for in-person meetings with an option for virtual telehealth if deemed appropriate.

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, can help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. With the help of a therapist, a patient can learn to control or eliminate troubling symptoms so they can function better and experience improved well-being and healing.

Children

Children enter psychotherapy for a number of reasons. Common issues include adjustment difficulties with a major life stressor such as parental divorce or family move, behavioral issues that are interfering with family life or school success, and social, emotional or academic issues that are negatively affecting well-being.  I value a team approach when I work with children and you, the parent, are part of that team.

Adolescents and Young Adults

Adolescence and early adulthood is a stressful period of development.  Stressors stemming from academic, social, family and early career issues and expectations can complicate normal adolescent development.  Developing a relationship with a psychotherapist during this period can be invaluable to the young person.  Support, psychoeducation and skill building are active components of  my work with this age group.

Adults

Life has many challenges and sometimes we find ourselves in a life chapter that just feels harder.  Maybe our skills in coping with challenges just aren’t working for us, or perhaps we are viewing a looming life change that is causing unrest. We may be feeling depressed or anxious or may find ourselves overwhelmed with emotions that are interfering with family/peer relationships or workplace performance.  Now may be a good time for psychotherapy.
